"it gets crazy after dark on the 18th"

hello everyone!!!

sounded like an awesome stake conference, wish i could be there but thanks for sharing all about it!! gald you guys had a blast with the churches too!

ok this week was crazy busy and so awesome mostly because it was the 18th of septiembre, which is the chilean independence day! we started the morning of the 18th playing futbol with the jovenes at 6 in the morning till about 9 and then we ate choripan (chilean brots) asado, just grilled chicken and steak and ribs, until like 5 at night. we ate so much and hung out and danced the cueca, the national dance of chile. well we watched people dance the cueca because we cant dance but it was still cool.

we have to be in our houses by 6 because it gets crazy after dark on the 18th so we went home and listened to the street parties, fireworks, probably gunshots too, and watched all the crazy drunk people try to dance haha. the next day we had so many contacts with drunk and hungover people, it was pretty funny. there were people crashed on benches in the parks, on the sidewalks, and just on front porches, sleeping and hungover.

the day before, during one of our lessons with andrea and hector at the completo stand, this super drunk guy came as we were closing, bought a hot dog, and dropped all of it on the ground and then got mad at andrea and started yelling and getting in elder garcias face. hector stood up and whipped out his walking stick and was about to drill the guy right in the head. i barely grabbed hectors arm and stopped him. elder garcia was trying to hold the guy off of hector and i was holding hector back and i couldnt even count how many new cuss words i learned that night haha.  luckily another man came and helped elder garcia walk the drunk guy away and we finished packing up and took the cart to andreas house. crazy chileans.

our investigators are doing great. guislenier has decided to pray for the first time and find out if she should get married to her boyfriend or not to prepare for baptism. its great to see the change in her as her desires have changed from wanting a boyfriend to wanting to become a member of the church. ill get a picture of her and send it next week.

andrea y hector have been doing great, and they both smoked their last cigaro on the 20th. one step closer to baptism on the 11th!!!

nicole is another investigator that has had trouble deciding if she should get married or not, but on friday she decided to get married in order for baptism as well on the 27th of this month!!! its amazing seeing the growth of investigators through the help of the gospel.

Familia Nagil is a less active familia. brother nagil has set a date to stop smoking on the 20th of octubre and has come to church again for the fisrt time in a long time. hermana nagil has been in santiago for the 18th, so she missed church this week but she commited to coming with her husband this week. we have been working like crazy down here and we are getting some good success, and i love it. it was a great second week. now for questions.

What part of Chile are you in?  Closer to the coast or the mountians?
i am in the city of san fernand and i am like 30 miles from the andes right now. its so awesome to wake up and see snow on the huge mountains every morning

Tell us some fun and random things about Elder Garcia.
elder garcia loves to sing and its usually in spanish ha. hes actually pretty good but he just sings at the top of his lungs in the most random times. he is a great missionary and a hard worker, love him a lot. he is like the class clown at the house, always making stupid little jokes and trying to talk in his broken ingles. hes great though

Have you been able to see Elder Benevidas yet?
haven't seen elder b yet, but he called me the first night and we talked about the mission and that hopefully ill be comps with him soon!

How big is your zone and who is your zone leader?  what is he like?
we have 32 elders and sisters in our zone and elder horsley and elder arjona and elder garcia is the district leader

Have you asked Elder Garcia to scratch your back yet?
ha no but im sure he would. one of the elders on the bus ride here did though and it made me miss home. ha

Is Elder Garcia's family members of the church and does he have a lot of support from home?
no one in his immediate family is a member, but he has a lot of support and a lot of it comes from his extended family. pray for him to have the strength he needs and bless his fam.

Do you do all your studies, reading, etc. in Spanish?
i read the scriptures, folletos, libros, and manuels in espanol, but im reading jesus the christ in ingles right now

Do you exercise at all?
we wake up and exercise for 30 minutes every morning and do 100 pushups and situps every night. every morning is the same as the nights plus 10 minutes on the bike, 10 minutes on the treadmill and 25 pullups

Nino wants to know if you want to live in Rancagua forever.
i love it here, don't get me wrong, but i will never live here. ever.

Is there anything specific we can pray about (for you) during family prayers?
pray for me to recibir el don de lenguas por favor!

What's the best and worst thing you ate this week?
we don't really eat anything bad or wierd here, we had tons of awesome grilled chicken, brots, and ribs though!

What is your mission president's wife like?
hermana warne is the sweetest abuelito ever. she is super nice and friendly and quiet and just a little grandma. everyone loves her

Are there any other missionaries from AZ in your zone/area?
elder cluff from the mtc is in my sector but he lives an hour and a half away so i only see him on wednesdays for zone meetings

How are Andrea and Hector the hot dog venders doing?
andrea y hector are great and so is their son benjamin! i love them and i cant wait for their baptism!
