"i almost barfed while eating the brain"

hey guys,

talca is pretty cool. i still dont know much of the sector or many of the members but from what ive seen and from who ive met its pretty good. we havent had tons of success latley, we are trying to find lots of new people but it hasnt really worked out. well see how this week goes. pray for us ha.

on tuesday modesto valdebenito from machali is going to get baptized and even though i wont be there to see it, i know its going to be a great experience. ill send the pictures i get from elder mesias and elder cardon.

questions:

1.  I looked up Talca on the map and it looks like you're 2 hours south of Machali.  Is it more rural?  what is the landscape like? ya its more country. there is a central city area but we are in a dirt poor sector right now. its pretty great. its really flat and hot with no trees and lots of vineyards around.

2.  I sent you a valentines package and there is something for Elder Mesias in it.  Did you get it and Will you get to give it to him? i didnt get it yet but when i do ill let you know and ill give the stuff to elder mesias too

3.  Explain how an emergency transfer works.  Do you get time to say goodbye to families etc, do you get on a train or do the AP's take you in a mission car?
well the assistants called me at 8ish on wednesday night and told me i was leaving for talca, but they didn't tell me at when i would be leaving. they ended up calling at 10 30 that night to tell me that i would leave at 9 the next morning. i didn't have time to say bye to anyone and the zone and member didn't even know i left until sunday haha. we just went in bus for 3 hours and got to talca about 1 on thursday afternoon.

4.  Tell us interesting things about elder Zamora and send us a pic of him and your new place.
elder remon is my comp and elder zamora is my roomate. elder remon is from lima he has 22 months on the mission and he is  good worker. we get along really well and we are always laughing with zamora and williams.

5.  Is Elder Williams the big guy from Utah you met in the CCM?  Is he the one Sarah's sister knows?
elder williams is the red head from idaho that is from my group too, elder cardon is the one that knows sarahs sister.

6.  Please tell me more about the pig head.  You ate the eyeball?  wow.
we boiled it with salt and then cut it in half and ate all the skin meat brain eyes everything, i almost barfed while eating the brain and ears and skin but the meat on the inside was actually good.

Ok, so I looked up very random Chilean Trivia and have some silly questions.

When did you feel comfortable using the word "po"? and what does it mean?
when i had about 3 months i started using po, but pres warne made a new rule about a month ago saying that we cant say po because its really informal. all the thugs and everyone says it but jesus never said it so we shouldn't either. it doesnt mean anything, its just to add attitude to the word and your tone of voice pretty much. bad spanish speaking habits in chile

Have you had Pastel de choclo (remember the corn pie we made before you left)? ya its huge here in the summer. corn only grows in the summer in chile so everyone always serves us pastel de choclo o pastel de papa from december to may.

Do you like super 8 candy?
its just a wafer bar covered in chocolate. its alright but not the best.

Have you shopped at Jumbo or Lider?
ya lider is the chilean version of walmart. its actually the same company, but chile decided to name it lider because of rights policy or something. jumbo is for the rich people. it has lots of imported stuff from the states so its super expensive.

its been kind of hard realizing that im not going to see modesto get baptized, but then i realized that it doesn't matter who baptizes as long as they are baptized and endure. im glad that elder cardon and elder mesias are going to have a set baptism tomorrow and i realized that i just need to keep finding people like modesto and if im around when they get baptized great, if not, the work will go on and that person will still get baptized. thanks for your prayers and emails. love you guys. have a good week!!

love,

elder pacheco
