"i have a cow leg mate cup"

buenos dias buenas tardes!

first week of change number 9 already came and gone! this week with my new comp, elder silvera has been so much fun. we work super hard, laugh like crazy, we are always smiling an cracking jokes with each other, but he is so focused on the investigators and teaches so well with the spirit. he is a great comp and example. this change is going to be a good one. so i stayed in san fernando, and it turns out that ill be able to spend my 2nd and last independence day party here in the same sector. the 18th of septiembre is a huge party day, like our 4th of july, with tons of meat, empanadas, sopapillas, completos and all kinds of futbol all day long. its going to be a blast with the members here in the branch and with elder silvera.

its freezing cold here all the time. im sick of winter and ready for summer, but its not going to be summer her until december... yay. we are working with about 5 investigators in our sector right now that aren't progressing very well. we aren't too sure what the problem is, but we cant get them to understand the importance of going to church. sometimes i think its us as teachers, but other times i think its just the investigators.

ill share an example to let you know why i think its just them sometimes:

we were walking to an appointment yesterday and found one of our investigators with a baptismal date named hector pinto. he walked up to us and said hi and then i thought he was going to cancel the appointment we had planned for tuesday. he started to talk to us about the sector and then out of nowhere, he told us that he forgot where he lived... we brought him to his apartment, and when we got there he didn't believe us when we told him it was his house. he started to look around outside and look at the apartment building, and after about a minute of just thinking and observing, he finally agreed it was his building and walked up the stairs into his house. elder silvera and i busted up laughing after and realized that we should probably teach the lessons to the people in a more simple way. these people are so great and i love them so much, they are just super hilarious.

questions:

Do you know why there's no peanut butter in South America?
its here, but only in the big walmart like stores and its like 7 bucks for a tiny jar

What kinds of things would I find in your grocery basket if I was shopping with you on P day?
ramen, lots and lots of cereal, yogurt, empanadas or sopaipillas, and stuff to make sandwiches

What are 3 interesting things about Elder Silvera?
he played soccer on a professional uruguayan team when he was 18, he is 24 right now, he has 15 months in the mission, he is teaching me a bunch of words from uruguay, and he loves the usa soccer jersey almost as much as his uruguay jersey. oh and he drinks a ton of mate. he got me addicted to mate.

When did you start liking matte?
I've had it and it's definitely an acquired taste!  Do you have your own matte gourd? about 5 months ago i lived with an elder from uruguay named elder lemes and he got me to try mate, and then i started drinking it a lot with elder salas in santa cruz. i have a cow leg mate cup and one that is a chilean recuerdo

Trevin was not allowed to drink matte in his mission.  Is it just a personal preference of each mission president?
ya its different for each pres. president warne lets us drinkn it only in the mornings and nights for 30 minutes in between breakfast and dinner

Do you smell like a mexican yet?  haha. do you use their special laundry soap etc?  What kind of shampoo do you use and could you use any american toiletries?
haha  ya i bet i do. they don't have any american brand detergent or anything down here. and if you can find it, its even more expensive than the peanut butter. naw im fine with all that stuff.

Are you happy to be staying in San Fernando or are you ready for a change?  Do you get to help decide where the elders are going to be transferred or is that up to the president and assistants?
i'd like to leave san fernando next change, but im happy to be with silvera here right now. only the pres and his asistentes have a say in the changes.

that was a little bit of our week. its been fun and im stoked to be with elder silvera here. love you guys, ill send pictures when i leave san fernando because there are a lot of problems with the computers here. love you fam and friends. adios!!!

love,

elder pacheco
