"full of joy and peace from the message we share"

hola hola,

what a great week. to sum it all up, we had 9 lessons total (which may not sound like a lot, but it is here in this sector), 2 investigators with a baptismal date for the 26th of september, and one of the investigators, gustavo, came to church with his little 5 year old daughter. hector didnt make it to church for some work issues, but we passed by his house to see how he is doing and he is doing great.

we planned to teach hecto the plan of salvation and apply it to his daughter and parents who died a while back, and as we taught, everything came together for hector and he totally understood why we are here and what we need to do to live with our families forever. when we first found hector, he was more serious/ sad and worried. there was a big lack of peace and happiness in his life, but now i can see that the sprirt is helping him understand the simple truths of the gospel so that he can apply it to his own life. its really amazing to see someone sad and down one moment and then to see the spirit change them into someone full of joy and peace from the message we share. hector is living the word of wisdom faithfully, and is understanding the principles that he needs so that he can get baptized and find the real joy in life. its always my favorite when we teach hector and we see him understand through the spirit.

questions:

1.  do you and the other missionaries in your mission get cell phones?
ya each sector has a cell phone

2.  can you upload pictures to my email from your go pro when you are in a place that has wi fi?
ty brooks has been doing that with Jen. no we cant use anything with wifi in this mission

3.  can you reduce the size of pictures your sending on your go pro so they can upload faster and you can send them to us?  (be sure you keep the original file and put them on a memory stick so they can be blown up or put in a book later).
ill try

4.  What are the laws on same sex marriage in Chile?
so its pretty complicated here right now. the government is coming out with a law that allows people of the same sex and different sex to live together and have whats called a civil union, which is a contract instead of a legal marriage. same sex marriage itself isnt legalized yet, but its on its way...

5.  Dad told me lots of stories about different companions during our trip to Utah.  some good, some not so good.  Have you ever been in a discussion/debate with a companion that got elevated?  what was it about?
i've only had one, and it lasted for a few days in the beginning of my mission. it was an issue of pride and who was better, but we figured things out and stopped being so dumb and now we are great friends.

6.  what was the happiest thing that happened this week?
gustavo came to church and hector is living the word of wisdom/law of chastity, and he understood everything we taught him yesterday.

7.  do people ask to see pictures of your family and friends etc back home?
not very much, every once and a while the members do.

8.  what has been the most effective way to contact people off the streets?
there aren't very many sober people or people on the streets that aren't smoking weed and doing drugs in our sector, so we just knock all the doors we see.

9.   what are some of the myths investigators have about mormons? everyone thinks that we cant drink coke. i decided to stop drinking soda a a few months ago, and everyone thinks its because im mormon haha. they think us missionaries are the only members of the church here in chile and that the church is only for gringos, they also think that we are full time missionaries for our whole lives and that we can never work or get married or anything normal. they pretty much think we are robots.

10.  what is the biggest blessing that has come into your life from serving a mission?
the ability to endure with patience and be truly happy through the hard times.

nothing too crazy happened this week, no shootings or crazy drunk people, and we are seeing some good progression in the sector and zone, so things are going well. hope everyone has a great labor day week, love you all!

love,
